
Richard pictured at Badanloch Estate, Sutherland with five of his Field Trial Champions
Richard’s first introduction to bird dogs – English Setters – was at the age of eleven when he spent his summer holidays at Badanloch Estate in Sutherland where his father’s cousin was headkeeper. In 1972 Richard took up a position as underkeeper at the estate, becoming Headkeeper in 1978 at age 24 until 1996 when he left the estate to take up the position of Senior Lecturer in Gamekeeping at North Highland College in Thurso. Richard has won the Champion Stake four times and has also won the Irish Championship. Richard is an ‘A’ panel judge and is also an approved presenter for the Kennel Club’s Judges Education Programme. He has been Field Trial Secretary of the Pointer Club of Scotland since 1993.
