The Scottish Field Trials Association is one of the oldest Gundog Associations in the United Kingdom. It was established in 1907 and has gone from strength to strength since. The Association runs Open and Novice Stakes for Retrievers and Spaniels and Open, Novice and Puppy Stakes for Pointers & Setters. SFTA also runs the Kennel Club Champion Stake for Pointers and Setters in alternate years. Membership is currently around 450 members. This page will include links to allow you to download membership application forms, schedules etc. Schedules for the Spring Pointer and Setter trials will be sent out in January and all other schedules for Retriever, Spaniel and Summer Pointer and Setter trials will be sent out late May or early June either by e-mail or post for those who haven’t yet got email. Information will be updated at appropriate times during the Field Trial calendar. In the future we will add trial results, news etc in this area. Please feel free to post news of your successes on this page.

Results of Pointer and Setter Spring Trials 2009

The Spring Trials for Pointers and Setters were held on 3rd and 4th April at Corrybrough Estate, Invernesshire by kind permission of John Tinsley Esq. Judges for the two days were Declan O’Rourke and Shaun McCormack. The weather on Friday 3rd April for our Open Stake was glorious but turned to rain for the Novice Stake on Saturday 4th April.

Open Stake Winners: 1st Mrs Carol Calvert’s ISB F.T.Ch Rushfield Sheilin, 2nd Miss Jean Brown’s ISD Lusca Fusion, Gun’s Choice Mrs Penny Darragh’s F.T.Ch Erinvale Gemma.
Novice Stake Winners:1st Mr Jimmy Forde’s ISD Gardenfield Lotus (handled by Colin Forde), Gun’s Choice Mrs Dawn Goutorbe’s P.B. Upperwood Poison Ivy

Results of Pointer and Setter Summer Grouse Trials 2009

The Scottish Field Trial Association trials were held at Tollishill and the Hopes, near Lauder, by kind permission of Faccombe Estates. The trials were generously sponsored by Connolly’s Red Mills and all the competitors went away with some 4kg bags of product and the winners also received vouchers. The ‘A’ judge was Jon Kean and the ‘B’ judge was Carol Martin.
The weather was kind on both days with only a couple of heavy showers.

Saturday was the Puppy and Novice stake held on Tollishill where there was an excellent stock of birds on the ground.
Winners in the Puppy Stake were:
1st Jane Oborn’s GSB Boyers Scarlatti
2nd Brian Morris’s ISD Bownard Boffin
3rd Stephen Frank’s PD Rangewide Best of Embercombe handled by Peter O’Driscoll
Winners in the Novice Stake were:
1st Elisabet Thorin’s PD Vastanans Charge Svensk Losen
2nd Brian Morris’s ISD Bownard Boffin
3rd Dr Stephen Clarke’s ISD Glendrissock Saphire

Sunday’s Open Stake on the Hopes involved a bit of a drive across the moor to the starting point however the scenery is stunning so it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience. Again there were plenty of birds.
